Mount Saint Vincent University

Established in 1873, Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) is set on a beautiful treed campus overlooking the waters of the Bedford Basin and is just minutes from downtown Halifax.

A diverse mix of women and men from across Canada and more than 70 other countries take advantage of MSVU’s programs and unique sense of community. With an average first-year class size of 23 students, the university offers a personalized approach to learning which means rich opportunities. MSVU offers certificates and diplomas as well as bachelor’s degrees in arts and science, education and professional studies programs in such areas as applied human nutrition, business administration, tourism and hospitality management, child and youth study, and public relations. Home to the longest-standing accredited cooperative education program in the Atlantic region, every program has an internship, co-op or practicum opportunity attached.

Academic system

MSVU is home to several Canada Research Chairs as well as other named research chairs, including the Atlantic NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering, whose primary goal is to increase women’s participation in these fields. At MSVU, graduate and undergraduate students enjoy a number of advantages as research assistants uncommon at larger universities, working alongside professors who are experts in their fields (from Alzheimer’s disease and aging to food security, childhood development, learning disabilities, and much more).
